20 things to do before traveling internationally – SKYOSKY

1. Make copies of your travel documents

We don't plan to lose your passport during holidays, but it's a good idea to make some backups in case: one to bring with you and another to leave at home.

2. Print copies of the itinerary and confirmations

Don't assume WiFi will always be available to withdraw itinerary or travel confirmations – always bring a hard copy with you if necessary.

I can't tell you how often hotels have made a mistake in my reservations and tried to charge exorbitant fees. Having a hard copy at your fingertips is in your favor.

I would also like to put a copy of my contact information and itinerary in my luggage only if it is lost, so the person who retrieves it will know how to contact me. You can also include this information on your luggage card.

3. Check travel tips / record your trip

Depending on where you travel, there may be unexpected travel advice that you should be aware of. Sometimes, your travel or health insurance may not be valid if there are current travel guidelines.

You can also record your trip with your country's embassy so they know where to go in an emergency.

4. Call your bank

Before leaving, it is important to contact your bank (the number on the back of the bank card) to inform them that you are traveling. This allows you to use your card to make purchases while traveling.

5. Have some emergency cash on hand

Just because your bank cards are available does not mean that they will be accepted in every institution. It is a good idea to have some additional cash in local currency, especially for small purchases.

6. Determine the documents you need to enter the country

Most countries require a passport that is valid for six months or more after your return date. You may also need a visa or special documents to enter the country as well.

For example, you would need to purchase a visa to enter Turkey earlier this year.

7. Check with your doctor or insurance provider

Before traveling, it is best to check with your doctor or insurance provider to see whether you will need any prescription medications or vaccines before your flight.

You may also need a note from your doctor to allow you to bring some prescription drugs to the country.

The last thing you want to do is arrive at your destination and know that some of the items you packed are not allowed in the country. This may be a certain seed or food. Check it out to avoid any unnecessary disturbances.

9. Check the weather forecast before departure

I like doing it about a week ago, and then just a day before to make sure I pack it right. If it's cold in the house but you're traveling to a warm climate, then you probably don't need to bring a heavy jacket.

Also, rains may pop up in expectations which means that you will need an umbrella. Check it out so you can pack it accordingly.

10. Find the local customs and manners you visit

It's always a good idea to read a little about local customs, culture and manners so you know what to expect while traveling internationally.

Sometimes a hand gesture in one country may have a different meaning in another country; you may need to wear more conservative clothes than you would do at home; tipping policies may also differ – either way, you don't want to do something silly that could have been avoided if you did Your search in advance.

12. Browse how-to books

I know some travelers prefer not to consult travel books, but I always like to browse them for tips, knowing the sights or attractions to visit, etc.

Many of them also include maps of the different neighborhoods of the city, so it gives you a better understanding of city planning. If you do not want to invest in a guide, you can borrow a book for free from your local library.

13. Get transformers / adapters for your electronic devices

This should be clear, but not every country has the same effort. You can always pick up one from the airport if you forget, but you'll pay more there. Instead, I recommend picking up a World Travel Adapter before your trip.

14. Learn some key phrases in the local language

One of the best things you can do is learn at least one keyword or phrase in the local language. Even if you don't look like a citizen, locals will still appreciate your efforts.

I noticed that this was especially true while I was in Paris. Although I could only say a few words, I can say that she appreciates that I tried to communicate with them in French first before switching to English.

Also, do not assume that everyone knows English, because this is not the case. Once you leave the main tourist sites, fewer and fewer people speak English.

15. Watch a video on how to use the city's public transport system

Most major cities are equipped with a decent public transport system. Instead of paying the exorbitant price for taxis, try learning how to use public transport in the city. You will save money and roam the city faster than the car.

If you decide to rent a car, check in advance to see if you need an international driver's license.

16. Define a plan for your mobile phone

When I leave the country, I always turn off my mobile phone data and switch to airplane mode. I use the city's WiFi network to make calls and texts using apps like Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger.

If you need data, talk to your phone provider in advance to decide which plan is best for you.

18. Find how to get to the hotel from the airport

To avoid paying high taxi rates, it's a good idea to find the best way to get to your hotel from the airport. Sometimes taxis offer a fixed price that you should know in advance if they try to trick you.

Most options include taking a shuttle, private car or using public transportation in the city.

By knowing how much each option costs and how long each option will take, you will be able to make an option that suits your budget and needs.

19. Search for local tourist fraud where you will visit

You may be able to detect a scam, but unfortunately this is not always the case. Understanding what you're looking for is a clever idea so you can prevent you from falling victim to a scam.

Always keep your intelligence about you and your personal bags within sight at all times.

20. Bring some non-prescription medications and cosmetics with you

I understand that some people want to pack lightly by leaving toiletries at home, thinking they will be able to buy them at their destination.

Keep in mind, however, that it may be difficult to find some items in other countries. If you are traveling to Korea, it will be difficult to find deodorant there, so be sure to bring some with you when you visit.
